Intro
FRVR is looking for a Lead Game Designer to spearhead the transition from hyper-casual games to a more hybrid-casual portfolio, blending casual social mechanics with deeper game progression and monetization strategies (50% IAP / 50% ads). This is a pivotal role where you will lead the design efforts, working closely with internal and external studios to create engaging, retention-focused web games with lasting appeal. You will own the design function, mentor junior designers, and drive the creative vision for new game projects.
We need someone with strong leadership skills, a data-driven mindset, and a deep understanding of social and casual game mechanics. You’ll work at the forefront of the evolving web gaming landscape, helping to shape the future of FRVR’s game portfolio.
Challenges & Responsibilities:
- Lead the creative vision for new game projects and oversee their execution from concept to release.
- Drive the transition from hyper-casual to hybrid-casual games, focusing on deeper player engagement, retention, and IAP monetization strategies.
- Own and grow the game design function, building a knowledge base and mentoring junior game designers.
- Collaborate with internal and external studios to develop engaging game mechanics and features.
- Prototype and iterate quickly to find successful gameplay loops and design solutions.
- Ensure games are designed with scalability, player retention, and long-term engagement in mind.
- Analyze data to make informed design decisions and optimize game performance.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Art, Engineering, Marketing) to ensure cohesive game experiences.
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience designing and shipping successful casual or hybrid-casual free-to-play games.
- Expertise in designing social mechanics, game progression systems, and monetization strategies.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring game designers.
- A data-driven approach to design, with the ability to analyze performance metrics and optimize game features accordingly.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in tools such as Jira, Excel, and PowerPoint for project management and data analysis.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prototype rapidly.
- Experience with IAP monetization strategies.
If you also have these experiences, it will be a bonus:
- Experience designing for web games and understanding the challenges of player retention in the web-based environment.
- Familiarity with Figma and other UX/UI design tools.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Prior experience working in or with external studios.
- A background in both game design and product management.
- Knowledge of growth strategies for long-term game maintenance and scalability.
